Can You Relate?
You're full of potential and big dreams… but somehow you keep starting things and never finishing them — habits, projects, even relationships…
You've tried discipline hacks, morning routines, and productivity systems… only to watch yourself quit after two weeks and slide back into old patterns…
You want to do meaningful work you're proud of… but you keep escaping into fantasies of the "next big thing" instead of committing to what's in front of you…
You keep one foot out of every relationship and sabotage it relationships the moment it gets serious… pulling away, picking fights, or fantasizing about someone "better"…
You're tired of being the "most talented person who never did anything with it" … watching less gifted peers buy houses, build careers, and settle into lives that actually feel like theirs — while you're still keeping your options open.
You're only magnetized by the unavailable ones — taken, distant, ambivalent, or leaving — because deep down the chase is safe: a person who never lands can never trap you.
Every time something starts WORKING — the business gains traction, the relationship deepens, the routine holds — a voice whispers "this isn't it, you're meant for something bigger" … and you burn it down.
If you answered yes to any of the above,
read this page carefully.
Here's Why You Feel Like A Kid Trapped In An Adult's Body
After a series of personal failures, such as starting 2 degrees and never finishing them, my business going nowhere, and hurting people I cared about, I finally decided to look for an analyst.
About 3 months in on my personal analysis, I read von Franz's book The Problem of the Puer Aeternus.
Oh boy, I wasn't prepared for it.
In just a few pages, this woman brilliantly described most of my struggles with a level of detail I hadn't seen anywhere else.
The verdict came out, I was dealing with all the issues of an unresolved mother and father complex, and the problem of the Puer Aeternus myself.
I finally understood why I kept procrastinating and left things unfinished, why I lacked motivation, why my life felt purposeless, and why I kept sabotaging my relationships the moment they got serious.
This revelation came as a lightning strike that shook me to my core and finally gave me the answers I was searching for.
At the time, I was about to start my training to become a Jungian Therapist myself and decided to commit wholeheartedly.
This gave me the unique opportunity of understanding this problem not only from direct experience but also from the deeper psychological dynamics behind it.
Once I cracked the code, my life finally started unfolding.
Becoming a therapist and creating my own business felt deeply meaningful, and I got married to a wonderful woman.
Once I started seeing clients, guess what?
They were all dealing with the exact same issues brought by an unresolved parental complex.…
The core problem is that the Puer Aeternus never fully individuated from his parents and lives a provisional life.
When you live provisionally, you're deeply afraid of commitments, and everything feels temporary as you're always waiting to feel ready.
There's a perpetual longing for the perfect thing and waiting for the perfect conditions.
The problem is that the Puer is enchanted by his own potential and always wants to keep his possibilities open.
Anytime something gets difficult or doesn't match his idealizations, he quits and lies to himself, saying it's not the right thing.
Or even worse, as soon as his projects or relationships start to settle, he feels trapped and blows everything up.
Just like I did several times.
As a result…
You attack new habits and routines with full force, but they never stick for more than a few weeks.
You leave several projects unfinished or torpedo them at the 90% mark.
You always leave one foot at the door in your relationships, and that's why they never become real, or you spend months obsessing over that one unavailable person.
You're driven by your moods and only get things done when there's external pressure, such as a deadline or a boss.
You're constantly starting over, a new career, new projects, a new city, but have nothing to show for it.
That's why the Puer Aeternus feels lost and life is painfully meaningless.
As time passes, he watches his peers with half of his talent building great careers and families, while he stays behind, still trying to “figure things out”.
But you know what?
This is just surface because…
The simplest way of understanding the effect of the parental complex is in terms of a life script.
From an early age, we unconsciously absorb a set of rules and guidelines detailing how we should live our lives.
These scripts are part of the “family culture”.
They include things such as how a man or lady should behave, what kinds of emotions are acceptable to show or not, what career you should pursue, what makes the best partner, how to handle money, and even a concept of god.
It's like a manual detailing how to live your life.
The problem is that these scripts come with fears, limitations, and broken relationship patterns that we unconsciously perpetuate.
For instance, learning to use food or alcohol to deal with stress, that money is scarce and you should live in fear, or that relationships are always chaotic.
Each one of these complexes conditions 3 main areas.
The mother represents Eros and shapes:
Relationships - Both with others and with our own emotions.
Pleasure and connection with the body.
Connection with the inner world and creativity.
The father represents Logos and shapes:
Relationship with work and money.
How confident you are to act on the world and pursue what you want.
A cosmovision and how to find meaning in life.
A Rejection of The Mother or Father Always Causes Problems
The way most Puers and Puellas attempt to solve the mother and father complex is by unconsciously fully identifying with one of them and rejecting the other, leaving them unbalanced.
But an identification with a negative mother complex leads to a constant search for comfort and addictions, codependent relationships, and aimlessness, as you're enmeshed with your own unconscious.
Because there's a paternal rejection, it leads to a negative relationship with work and poor decisions about money, a lack of self-confidence and grit to overcome obstacles, and ungrounded spirituality as well as magical thinking.
While an identification with a negative father complex usually leads to workaholism, an identity tied to performance and productivity, being driven by negative emotions, and frequently leads to atheism.
Because there's a maternal rejection, there's no emotional connection with anyone, an incapacity to simply enjoy life and rest without feeling guilty, and no creativity.
But when you truly individuate from the parents, you can recreate your relationship with both the Eros and Logos principles.
You can update the mother complex and finally create relationships free from chaos, enjoy life without compulsions, and be your most creative self.
You can update the father complex and accomplish meaningful work, develop a positive relationship with discipline, have grit to overcome challenges, and have a mature faith.
That's why, if you want to truly own your life you must individuate from your parents.
But there are a few problems…
Here's Why Nothing Ever Sticks
The Puer Aeternus is trapped in the extremes of the negative mother and father complex, and even periodically switches sides, perpetuating the provisional life.
That's why many people make the mistake of equating the Puer Aeternus with a personality or even with having ADHD.
But the Puer Aeternus isn't a fixed identity, it's a general attitude about life, work, and relationships.
That's why accumulating more information, reading books, and watching 100s of videos on psychology don't change anything.
You have the illusion that you're learning so much, but at the end of the day, everything is still the same.
On the other hand, you might've tried white-knuckling it.
You download several habit-tracking apps, try that new diet, or start that new 30-day challenge.
At the moment, it feels great to get things done, but the enthusiasm always fades after a few days, or you burn out.
White-knuckling gives you the illusion that you're progressing, but it's just busywork because it doesn't change the foundations of your identity.
When it comes to healing, many Puers are impatient and are drawn to magical solutions.
Some want to heal 7 generations of trauma by going on an Ayahuasca retreat, while others are constantly looking for that new fad that promises an instant cure.
You might even experience a placebo effect from it, but reality always strikes after a few days and the pattern continues.
Here's how to actually break the loop…
How To Overcome The Mother and Father Complex
After 8 years of guiding people to overcome the Puer and Puella Aeternus, I developed a hybrid methodology that consists of 2 important pillars:
Mapping the parental complex and generating an identity shift by unlocking the Flow State.
Because true and lasting changes don't happen in a single moment, but are a construction that occurs on two levels.
Here's the breakdown.
1st Pillar - Mapping The Parental Complex
There are 3 important steps to map the mother and father complex, uncover the unspoken family manual still controlling your life, and move towards individuation.
1 - Map The Relationship With The Mother and Father
The first step is to map the relationship and your views about each of the parents.
The purpose is to uncover their internalized image by exploring their beliefs, main patterns of behavior, and expectations about you.
The mother governs Eros: Relationships - Pleasure and connection with the body - Connection with the inner world and creativity.
The Father governs Logos: Work and Money - The confidence to act on the world - How to find meaning.
Map both and and you see exactly how you’re relating to each.
2 - Map The Inherited Identity
The next step is analyzing your role inside the family system and what identity you're carrying.
Are you more identified with the mother and the classic Puer and Puella Aeternus?
Or are you more identified with the father and the high-achiever's armor?
And which role do you default to in the Drama Triangle - victim, savior or perpetrator?
These answers will reveal the foundations of your identity as well as the broken patterns you're still replicating.
3 - Individuation
Once the life scripts become conscious, a separation occurs between who you truly are and the inherited voices running you.
From that gap, you can finally separate the wheat from the chaff — keep what serves you, and see precisely what needs rebuilding in your relationship to Eros and Logos.
This leads us to the second pillar.
2nd Pillar - Identity Shifting (The Flow State)
Many approaches stop at the intellectual level.
But without having a new experience of who you are, you'll become a master of describing all of your patterns with the best psychology lingo, but still feel like a hostage the moment they show up.
That's the importance of the Flow State: it helps you embody all your insights and take focused actions to dismantle negative complexes, and facilitate an identity shift.
During flow, the activity of the prefrontal cortex diminishes temporarily, and there’s a transient hypofrontality.
This change shuts down the inner critic, and your system is inundated by “feel-good chemicals”, such as dopamine, norepinephrine, anandamide, endorphins, and serotonin.
Finally, when flow is attached to developing a craft and serving the greater good, you can finally experience the meaning that you crave.
To beat procrastination and unlock the Flow State on command, you need 3 components:
Obey the pre-conditions of the Flow State (and avoid the blockers).
Apply the internal and environmental Flow triggers.
Move with the 4-stage flow cycle.
I cover the exact hybrid methodology to map the parental complex and how to unlock the flow state in my new training…
The Mother and Father Complex Masterclass

Why blaming your actual parents for the parental complex is only "partially true"... and the hidden factor inside YOUR psyche that determines the parental shadow expression. (Good news: it means you can change it.)
Why your mother is the blueprint for every relationship you'll ever have — friendships AND romance — and the one question your first bond answered for you: "is it safe to connect, or will I always be abandoned?”
The real reason talented people chronically undercharge — and the exact unconscious chain (money → visibility → threat) that makes them fear success without knowing it.
The 2 opposite ways a negative father complex shows up: total lack of confidence... or ferocious ambition fueled entirely by self-hatred. (Most "high achievers" are the second type and have no idea.)
The 3 areas of life secretly run by your mother complex — one of them explains why you can't relax without a snack, screen, or drink in hand.
What happens in families where money became a substitute for love... and why every dollar you earn since then feels like it comes with strings attached.
The 2 tell-tale signs (straight from Jung) that you're still living under your parents' shadow… even if you left home 20 years ago.
The invisible "life manual" your parents handed you without ever saying a word… dictating your career, your partner, even your money habits.
How to identify which role the family system assigned you at birth — the savior, the scapegoat, the special one, or the screw-up. (You must become conscious of this narrative before you can drop it.)
The real function of perfectionism — it's NOT high standards. It's an unconscious strategy to earn love and avoid abandonment… and here's what dissolves it.
The #1 mistake analysts make with clients stuck in the past (and the only legitimate reason to look backward at all).
The "nasty inner bully" driving every high performer who can't stop, can't rest, and never feels good enough… and where it actually comes from.
Why women who reject their mothers tend to win at work but lose in love — and the internal rejection that causes it.
Why some men feel like a child trapped in an adult's body no matter how much they accomplish — and the one archetypal challenge they skipped.
The childish belief about talent that makes puers jump from interest to interest with nothing to show for it — and the truth about where passion actually comes from.
The final sacrifice that ends the "world of potentials" trap for good — and why closing doors is the only way to get a real life.
Why the puer's real religion is comfort and immediate gratification ("his gods") — and why that's the precise reason his life feels empty and nihilistic.
The reason no productivity hack ever fixes a puer's procrastination... (it's only a symptom of a much deeper, unconscious desire.)
Jung and von Franz said the cure for the puer is "work" — but never said what kind. Here's the missing distinction (because just getting a job doesn't work).
The two father patterns that install the "I'm not good enough" script in every high achiever (one is obvious... the other hides inside what looks like normal parenting.)
Why finally hitting the big goal — the money, the title, the milestone — can trigger a total motivational collapse overnight. (And the exact mechanism that flips a driven achiever into a comfort-seeking Puer.)
The real reason the goalpost keeps moving no matter what you accomplish... and why the relief only lasts minutes before imposter syndrome takes over again.
Why you crush it for your boss but every personal project and business idea dies on the vine. (It's not a discipline problem — it's about who the work is for.)
Why relaxing registers as a threat in the achiever's psyche, and the predictable way every hobby you pick up turns into a part-time job.
The childhood role that turns achievers into "the fixer" in every relationship — and why they keep attracting troubled partners and emotional drama.
Why "just work less" is terrible advice for high achievers... and the deeper shift in where your drive comes from that actually works. (Your ambition is NOT the problem.)
The 3 flow triggers that make work pull you in instead of you dragging yourself to it... this is the difference between people who love hard work and people who grind out of fear.
How Eros and Logos split the labor of a meaningful life: one reveals what's truly valuable, the other gives you the grit to protect it and make it real.
Why "keeping your options open" is exactly what's keeping you going in circles... and the only TWO goals you should be working on simultaneously until you make real progress.
The REAL reason your emotions feel uncontrollable and "possessive" when they finally surface (hint: it's not because you're too emotional — it's the exact opposite).
Why "knowing the concepts" of Eros and Logos changes nothing — and what actually rewires the parental complex instead.
The internalized arrogance almost every intellectual high-achiever secretly carries... and how it quietly blocks connection, feeling, and meaning.
Why the body — not the mind — is the vehicle that actually drives psychological change.
The real reason you keep "attracting" the same chaotic people... (and how to uncover the mechanism keeping you stuck).
How playing helpless becomes a weapon of control — the victim's covert method of commanding everyone around them without ever asking for a thing.
Triangulation: the one sentence that pulls you out of a family drama without becoming victim, rescuer, or persecutor. ("That's between you two.")
Why almost everyone in the triangle — persecutors included — sincerely describes themselves as the victim (and the specific blind spot of each role).
The exact moment a rescuer flips into a "persecutor" in the victim's eyes — and why the victim then recruits a fresh rescuer and tells them stories about you.
Why the rescuer secretly needs you to stay broken... (and will quietly sabotage your recovery the moment you start standing on your own).
The single lie the devouring mother implants in her child's mind without ever saying it out loud. (Spot it, and you've found the root of his fear of living.)
Why the devouring mother says she wants her children to succeed while sabotaging every attempt to grow up — and the 3 disguises this sabotage wears: overprotection, "you're not capable," and emotional demands that make your own needs feel selfish.
Why the cure is never "cutting off your mother" — it's withdrawing the projection and conquering the devouring dynamic within.
The uncomfortable truth about why she has so much power over you… (hint: she's only devouring because something in YOU answers the call — and this realization is what actually sets you free.)
What parentification really does to a child who became mom's confidant and a second parent to their siblings — and why they grow into people-pleasers who can't say no.

The exact system I use with clients to obliterate procrastination and unlock the flow state on command.
"Autotelicity": the point where work becomes its own reward and discipline stops feeling like discipline (when flow becomes a way of life, not a productivity hack).
Why flow matters MORE for the Puer than anyone else: it builds the one thing he's missing — an identity that doesn't depend on other people's opinions.
The 4 stages of the flow cycle — and the exact stage where most people quit (knowing this alone explains years of failed focus attempts).
"Transient hypofrontality": the documented brain state that literally switches OFF your inner critic, self-doubt and second-guessing — and how to trigger it on purpose.
Understand how codependency fuels procrastination, so that you can stop abandoning your own goals to manage other people’s emotions and expectations.
The 5-chemical cascade mapped in the flowing brain: dopamine like cocaine, norepinephrine like Adderall, anandamide binding to THC receptors, endorphins stronger than morphine, and serotonin's serenity at the end — how to teach your brain to produce its own drugs.
Let's run the numbers about what it takes to conquer the Puer Aeternus.
The classic route to map and overcome the parental complex is working directly with an analyst.
The standard protocol is weekly sessions and a commitment of at least 1 year.
At $200 a week, that's a minimum investment of $9,600 per year.
That's exactly what I charge to help my clients, and they do get amazing results.
But I know this can be expensive, and some people prefer to do things on their own.
That's why I condensed 8 years of experience, along with the exact map and tools I use with my clients, into this masterclass.
This is the next best thing to working with me 1-1, and an amazing support if you're already in therapy or coaching.
You don't need to invest $9,600.
You can join this masterclass for less than a therapy session.

“Rafael has a deep understanding of Carl Jung’s work and the therapy process generally. He has the ability to break down complex material into practical, relatable content. In his Audacity program, I found his breakdown of Jung’s Personality Types particularly helpful. His masterclass ‘Katabasis’ speaks for itself. It shows someone who not only understands Jung’s work but has gone through the process of individuation. More importantly, over a long period of time I have found Rafael to be a person of integrity who is trustworthy and honest”.

I can wholeheartedly recommend working with him!”.

Haron Gomes (Brasil)
“Rafael contributed some very interesting insights to my process of investigating my “shadows”. Perhaps his most valuable contribution was to highlight the importance of not neglecting my artistic/creative side, something I have neglected to give due attention to in the last two years. Paying attention to this and recovering something that has always been so important in my life has, little by little, helped me to face the challenges and obstacles of everyday life in a more positive and hopeful way”.
Geraldo Antunes (Brasil)
“Rafael helped immensely with my insecurities, shyness, and to set my objectives in relation to my career. I greatly recommend him!”.

Sean Barnes (Canada)
“Your program went far beyond my expectations. Firstly the value of this program is worth far more than what I had paid. I learned more about how to integrate my personal strengths and strengthen my weaknesses than I ever would have learned about Jungian Psychology on my own. After finishing this program I can honestly say my worldview has profoundly shifted for the better. I can interpret my own emotions and reactions to things in a way I never have before. I would highly recommend this program for anyone who wants to integrate themselves into the world as their best capable self. Highly recommend 10/10!”.

Jan Sykora (Czech Republic)
“I always thought of the shadow as something purely dark, bad, evil, but in Katabasis I discovered we hide in the shadow everything that is unacceptable to us - anger, signs of weakness or the ability to stand up for ourselves (if we learned to perceive it as a bad thing). This was a major turnover for me and with Rafael's gentle guidance I finally moved from a stuck place. He mentions lot of practical examples of how the shadow can manifest, so you can better imagine it in your own life. I never understood why in the end I always fall into self-sabotage. I felt like I just could not help it - like there was an invisible force above me, guiding me against my dream life. Now, I feel finally free".
